Hi Annette
Just a quick note about my holiday with yourselves booked through The Adventure Company,
Sunday 14 September to Saturday 27 September.
Thank you and all members of staff at Tropical Trails for a memorable holiday in
Tanzania.
I was one of the party of 15 who climbed Mt. Meru and Kili. This was my first visit to
Africa and I had wanted to climb Kili for over three years. I greatly enjoyed my
experience. Now I have been back for a couple of weeks my energy levels have returned and
what we achieved as a party is still sinking in.
We all had a great time and got on really well together. This was helped by the fantastic
guides cooks and porters etc. we had on both trips. Both trips were brilliantly run and I
would like you to thank Amos, "Its just around the corner" was his favourite saying, who
was our main guide on Meru, and Sayed who was the main guide on Kili. Sayed's
organisational skills were fantastic in looking after all 15 members of the party as well
organising all the porters, cooks etc. It was his skill, I am sure, that enabled all of us
to summit Kili.
I would like you to pass a special thank you to Sayed on the day we walked from Shira
Cave to Barafu Hut via the Lava Tower. The previous night I had been very sick and had a
bad stomach, I don't think this was due to altitude. It was really tough for me to reach
the Lava Tower, I ached all over, muscles and joints. At the Lava Tower when we stopped
for dinner I just wanted to sleep. But with Sayed's efforts, he carried my day pack, and
Godbless plus a couple of other part members we eventually got to Barafu hut, so please
pass on my thanks to Sayed.
Summitting Kili was also very special for me. Last year I lost my youngest son David, he
was 22, and collapsed shortly after completing the London Marathon and died peacefully
the next day. He knew of my ambition to climb Kili and it was very emotional for me when
we reached the summit.
I attach a few photos of my trip.
Regards
