Background

The two islands comprising Zanzibar (namely Zanzibar and Pemba) are located in the Indian Ocean, about 35 Kms off the coast of the mainland of Tanzania. Zanzibar Island, which is known as Unguja in Kiswahili, is the larger of the two - 50 miles long and 24 miles wide.

Climate

June to October is the dry season, where as the rainy season starts in March or April and lasts several weeks. Zanzibar gets about 60 inches of rain annually. Maximum temperatures are 88.5 F in February and 81F in July. Minimum temperatures are 80F in March and 71 in June.
